A laboratory and ritual space to liberate the collective imagination

From November 2nd to 7th, 2026, New Culture Studios in

Ibadan becomes a site of active reclamation, a laboratory

and ritual space to liberate the collective imagination.

Conceptual artist Pierre-Christophe Gam joins scholars,

researchers, and dreamers from the Institute of African

Studies at the University of Ibadan to confront an urgent

imperative: What future does Africa dream of ?

Across installations, performances, lectures, and communal

rituals, Blueprint for a Renaissance invites the public to

dream alternative worlds into existence.

What does Africa dreams of ?

Conceived by Pierre-Christophe Gam, Blueprint for a renaissance offers a speculative glimpse into Africa's tomorrow. A journey inside the depth of Africa's contemporary dreams, to articulate new visions for a future. It offers a practice to be lived, experienced together, slowly, through communal rituals. A counter-infrastructure where dreams are the soil and imagination the roots. Informed by dreams harvested across the continent, during a rigorous five years investigation which endeavour to answer one question: What future does Africa dream of?

Future-dreaming sessions were convened with communities across Africa, in villages, towns, and cities, where participants shared their visions, hopes, and desires for the future. Fellowships at MIT and the University of Pennsylvania gave the project academic grounding, while collaboration with Africans Rising rooted the work in activism and social movements. This weaving together of communities, academy, and grassroots action shaped the research into a living methodology that informs this project. Think of it less as an exhibition or a symposium, than as an invitation, a teaser of what could be. A door half-open, allowing us to glimpse worlds not yet born, fragile yet radiant with possibility. It does not claim certainty, but extends an opening into what might be. Its humble ambition is to serve as both mirror and map: a way to reflect on the dreams we carry, and a potential roadmap towards the “African Renaissance”.
