The House We Dreamed

A speculative vision of the future built from dreams gathered across Africa.

THE HOUSE WE DREAMED (ABUJA 2063)

Accessible in browser or in VR with a headset.

The House We Dreamed (Abuja 2063) is a speculative WebVR installation presenting five visions of the future, directly informed by real aspirations collected across African communities through the Global Mapping of Dreams.

The experience begins inside a central courtyard opening onto five mythical doors. Each door asks a profound question to the future: How will we Eat, Play, Dream, Pray, and Love? As visitors step through a door, they find themselves inside a chamber. At its far end rests a panoramic composition, a multilayered collage-tapestry revealing vibrant scenes of everyday life within a dreamed future. Walking in front of the landscape triggers animations and short audio dramas. Through these intimate soundscapes, members of a family living in Abuja in 2063 emerge in sound. Each audio reveals the story of a new Africa. They offer speculative tales grounded in the rhythms of daily life: dreams of how families might gather around a table, how prayer and play might be transformed, and how love itself might be re-imagined in a liberated future. Together, they invite us to feel these futures.

Accessible through a web browser or via a VR headset (Quest 3 or equivalent).

The Dream Archive series is a cycle of five panoramic landscape tapestry collages. Each work visualises a future vision drawn from dreams gathered with local communities across Africa and the diaspora.

Developed through the Global Mapping of Dreams research in collaboration with Africans Rising, the series translates collective desires into five fundamental enquiries: how will we Eat, Play, Dream, Pray, and Love? Together, these five landscapes form a speculative atlas, an artistic map of everyday life inside the futures being imagined.

In the context of a physical exhibition, the collages become AR-activated works. Through augmented reality, performed scenes and animated fragments emerge from the surface of each tapestry, extending the imagery into time, sound, and lived presence.
